Vortex VR: we tested the virtual reality experience of the series | VL Media

While the Vortex series is a hit on France 2, a VR experience is available and an operation has even been carried out IRL in Paris. We were there !

What is Vortex? 27 years ago, Ludovic, police captain in Brest, lost his wife Mélanie in an accident. By revisiting a crime scene reconstructed in virtual reality, the unimaginable happens: a spatio-temporal fault opens allowing them to communicate, Mélanie in 1998 and Ludo in 2025! Melanie is supposed to die in 11 days… But if Ludo manages to save her, what will become of his wife Parvana and their son Sam?

Become an investigator with Ludovic Béguin, the hero of Vortex and go to the beach via the virtual reality room in which you enter in order to pick up the clues and discover the identity of the body found. Available through virtual reality headsets, the experience Vortex VR settled for two days at the Forum des Halles in Paris. Invited to test it, we go there and, equipped with a helmet, the instructions are given to collect the clues via gamepads.
The immersion is done through the VR room of the series where we find Ludovic. Tomer Sisley played the game of motion capture and will assist you in this investigation (while the authors of the series participated in the writing of this experience). The interaction is perfect, the rendering quite successful!

Then the most successful moment of the experience remains the moment of switching between the VR room and the range of the series in VR. We really have the impression of being at the heart of the series, the result is stunning, the rendering impeccable. Then, we are immersed in the game and it will take a little more control of the game for those who are not used to playing than for experienced gamers. You will therefore have to pick up the clues found on the beach and select the right ones to allow you to determine why the victim was on the beach, then his identity. If you will be helped if you have seen the series, know that the pleasure will be intact for the beginner spectator. To avoid any spoilers, we advise you to enjoy the experience after episode 1. It is a perfect extension of the series viewing experience.

“The realism of the scenery for the escape game was made possible by precise mapping of the 2 hectares of Corsen beach, in Brittany, produced by Fix Studio using drones. Then, these elements were modeled in 3D for the series and adapted by the Chipo y Juan agency to integrate the game into virtual reality”

Press release

You will not have to discover the identity of the assassin, so no spoiler as to the end of the series. The experience ends with the appearance of Mélanie who, as in the series, suddenly appears on the beach while jogging.
Allow 15 to 20 minutes on average to go through the game (before the tide rises and carries away the clues), a little more if, like the author of these lines, you have trouble with gamepads. Not without having been chambered beforehand by Agathe Burtin, the VR technician of the police laboratory, for your lack of responsiveness and speed in the game. Remains a pleasant experience, fun, very well done, it is more pleasant to see a tuned chain of means to such immersive experiences.
