Meta and the Society of Dramatic Authors and Composers (SACD) have concluded an agreement relating to the use of the SACD repertoire in France, Belgium and Luxembourg. The signing of this agreement, which testifies to Meta’s commitment to the principles and objectives of article 17 of the European Directive on copyright, allows it to use the SACD repertoire on its various platforms as Facebook or Instagram.

Pursuant to this agreement, users will be able to continue, on Meta platforms, to view and share freely within their communities the works of the SACD repertoire. The authors of these works will be remunerated accordingly.

This agreement, respecting the interests of the authors and Meta’s economic model, is the result of strong collaboration and in-depth work which has enabled an evaluation of the works in the SACD repertoire on Meta’s platforms thanks to an analysis based on objective and quantified data.

For Pascal Rogard, CEO of SACDThis agreement marks an important step in the recognition of the rights of authors of cinema, fiction, animation, web-creation and live performance as well as in the protection of their interests, which is the reason for be from the SACD. Over the years, Meta has become one of the leading social networks. Authors may be compensated appropriately for sharing their works. With this agreement, Meta sets an example by committing itself in favor of authors. The SACD, for its part, reinforces their protection in the digital world. It is also continuing its efforts to ensure that each platform distributing works from its repertoire is not a stowaway of copyright. Meta’s commitment in this direction is a great step forward that should be welcomed. »

For Laurent Solly, Vice-President Southern Europe of MetaWe are proud to be committed alongside the SACD and thus to further accentuate our support for authors, rights holders and the entire audiovisual ecosystem in France. For several years, Meta has developed dedicated tools such as Rights Manager or Creator Studio which provide rights holders with information and data on their content and allow them to simply control when, how and where their works are shared on the platforms of Meta. While reaffirming our desire to protect copyright on our platforms, this agreement testifies to the strength of the collaboration of online platforms and rights holders to defend intellectual property and support audiovisual creation. »

Meta and the SACD are determined to pursue a fruitful collaboration in the service of the promotion of audiovisual creation and the protection of copyright.
