PSVR 2: we played Horizon Call of the Mountain on PS5 and it’s amazing!

Game news PSVR 2: we played Horizon Call of the Mountain on PS5 and it’s amazing!

We no longer present the PSVR 2 as it is starting to be talked about. Virtual reality headset taking over from the first released in 2016, this little technological gem was approached by our teams a few days ago. We offer you a detailed return of our experience on Horizon: Call of the Mountain.

Horizon: Call of the Mountain, a full-fledged experience

Horizon: Call of the Mountain is a VR experience that takes place in the universe ofHorizon: Zero Dawn and Horizon: Forbidden West. In this title developed by Guerrilla, however, you will not play Aloy, the protagonist of the previous games, and you will live a completely original story that will not be linked to the events of the main games. In other words, not only is it not necessary to have played the games on playstation4 and playstation5 to understand this one, but neither will it be necessary to go through Call of the Mountain to understand the sequels of the main games.

Horizon: Call of the Mountain first unveiled in January 2022 and has since revealed very little information. If we had a few videos here and there, it was the first time we were able to try it, and in other words, we were convinced.

Is PSVR 2 that good?

We told you about it at the beginning of the weekthe PS VR 2 has everything to be considered a real gem of technology. Already highly appreciated by virtual reality fans who have been able to test it, this sony presents itself as a real showcase of the genre and should soon reach us.

Designed to take over from its big brother released in 2016, it does however bring some very interesting innovations to this market. The headset is beautiful, light and its design is similar to that of the PlayStation 5, with the leitmotiv of being both “easy to access and efficient”. No more multiple wiring, everything now goes through a single wire, which allows it to be installed in a few minutes, and even to go from head to head in a few seconds. Its joysticks are also much more ergonomic, and allow total immersion.

No price has been announced yet, but it’s a safe bet that it should be between 450€ to 550€. In addition to better ergonomics and a much more attractive design, the PSVR 2 also promises vibrations at the level of the helmet and an impressive Eye-tracking technology.

Insane optimization

If we already knew that Horizon: Call of the Mountain was designed entirely for this PSVR 2, we were far from imagining how impressive the latter would be. The graphics are bluffing at the very least, and each landscape observed in the exploration phases seems more beautiful than the previous one. The climbing phases are also an excellent time to take the time to turn your head and enjoy the tables offered by the game. It must be said that Horizon: Call of the Mountain uses the Eye-tracking technology of PSVR 2 in an ingenious way, since it concentrates the visual quality of the title where your gaze is. This means the graphics will be maxed out wherever you look, but lowered where your eyes don’t. By optimizing the visual quality of the title in this way, you will be able to enjoy the experience in the best possible way even on a 500€ device.

Of course, Horizon: Call of the Mountain also features combat sequences where you’ll spend your time dodging and counter-attacking. The goal will then be to use your elemental arrows and your environment to bring down the most formidable machines. The fights are ultimately as physical as they are interesting and clearly convinced us, like all of our first experience.
