It is this Friday that the Obi-Wan Kenobi mini-series will be available on Disney+, after a long wait tinged with excitement. With six episodes, this new development of the Star Wars license will allow fans to find the Jedi, but also Darth Vader.

We’ve known for a long time that Ewan McGregor will be back as Obi-Wan Kenobi, and Hayden Christensen, the previously unloved actor playing Anakin Skywalker, will be back in Darth Vader’s armor.

After the Empire’s victory, discretion and cunning are in order

The series takes place 10 years later Revenge of the Sith, at a time when the Empire hunts down the last Jedi through an Inquisition, and when Obi-Wan watches over Luke from afar, despite Owen Lars’ animosity towards him. The main idea of the series is to tell the story of Obi-Wan since his failure in the face of Anakin’s tipping, until his apparent appeasement from Episode IV. However, Obi-Wan is an extremely popular character, and Hayden Christensen won back the love of fanswho no longer hesitate to support him in his role as Vader.

Is a season 2 for the mini-series possible?

As well, we wonder if Disney and Lucasfilm would not be tempted by the idea of continuing the adventure. But more than production, these are obviously all the people involved, including the actorswho would have expressed their desire to see a season 2 come to life. Desires that have reached the ears of Kathleen Kennedy, President of Lucasfilm, recently interviewed by Entertainment Weekly. And even though Obi-Wan Kenobi was meant to be a self-sufficient miniseries, the door is not fully closed about a sequel:

It is indeed something to be considered. Ewan had a great time. Hayden (Christensen) too. So indeed, everyone involved would like it not to end there. The only question worth asking is “Why should we do it?” she indicates.

For his part, Ewan McGregor was extremely enthusiasticeven if he immediately tempers his own ardorand ours at the same time:

Would I like to do one more season? Seriously, I would love that! It was designed as a mini-series. And, in a sense, it does the job very well, in my opinion, of building a bridge between Chapters III and IV, bringing me a little closer to the version of Obi-Wan played by Alec Guinness in A New Hope (the episode IV, editor’s note).

A whole temporality to explore, and several series in approach

An analysis joined by Joby Haroldscreenwriter of the series, who evokes this evolution of the character and this goal of link two trilogies separated by almost 20 years. To give an idea, between the release of episode IV and that of episode III, 32 years have passed. Now all you have to do is wait for the episodes to be released on Disney+.

As a reminder, we will be entitled to two episodes this Friday, May 27, then one episode per week for the next month. Then, we will have to wait for the third season of The Mandalorian, the new season of The Bad Batch, the series on Ahsoka or even that on Cassian Andor. As for the cinema, we are awaiting news of the film Rogue Squadron, and of the new “trilogy” by Rian Johnson.
