Highlighting films from Saudi Arabia, the Arab world, Asia and Africa, these prestigious awards, now in their second edition, allow the Red Sea International Film Festival to highlight the scope and immense talent of the region and beyond. The awards were decided by an international jury made up of renowned filmmakers and industry heavyweights.
The prize for best film was awarded to Hanging Gardens (Iraq) by Ahmed Yassin Al Daradji, while Tunisians Lotfy Nathan and Adam Bessa received the prizes for best director and best actor respectively for Harka. The prize for best actress was awarded to the Algerian Adila Bendimerad, for Akhira, The last queen.
Celebrating emerging film talent
Celebrating boldness and innovation in filmmaking, the Yusr Awards award the region’s greatest prizes to emerging and established voices in fiction, documentary, animation and virtual reality. . The awards were handed out in a scintillating ceremony attended by international film industry talent and hosted by presenters Raya Abirached and Mo Islam.
“Over the past week, we have come together to celebrate the film industry and the incredible talent we have in the region and abroad,” said Mohammed Al Turki, CEO of RedSeaIFF. “The second edition of the festival was a huge success welcoming delegates from all over the world to this amazing city. We are delighted to close the festival by rewarding the work of emerging and already established filmmakers from Saudi Arabia, the Arab world, Asia and Africa – congratulations to all the winners”.
