The opening ceremony will therefore launch the festivities on Friday evening. Enough to allow as many people as possible, especially those who work during the week, to take advantage of it more but also to better welcome the professionals who come to take part in the dedicated days.

On the menu of this opus: 177 documentary works that will explore the most diverse themes through all forms of storytelling, from cinema to television and series, including virtual reality, podcasts and the link with musical creation. There will be a hundred feature films, 4 web series, 25 short films. Among others.

Among the novelties, for the first time, Fipadoc will screen, out of competition, five unpublished documentary series, in their entirety. Something to offer viewers, from episode to episode, a new experience and question our ways of viewing these stories of reality.

Spectacular

Always with the idea of questioning the way we tell, the festival will offer a section called “Smart” expanded. This foray into new forms of writing and digital experiences whether in virtual reality, augmented reality or even 360 degrees has become a must. The 2023 vintage will not deviate from this good habit and this popular meeting place for the public who settles on the floor of the Bellevue. The “Smart” area will offer 25 digital documentary experiences this year.

“The opening ceremony will take the form of a large dreamlike and immersive film-concert with a world premiere screening”

It should be noted that in this context, visitors will also be able to take part in “ Gaudi – the workshop of the divine » an immersion that promises to be spectacular in virtual reality in the Catalan artist’s studio and in the intricacies of the realization of the Sagrada Familia, presented out of competition.

The opening ceremony also promises to amaze your eyes and ears. It will take the form of a large dreamlike and immersive cine-concert with a world premiere screening: that of the film “29 173 NM” directed by Romain De La Haye-Serafini, alias Molécule, and Vincent Bonnemazou. It will take place in the presence of Molécule, which has equipped the boat of skipper Thomas Ruyant, a competitor in the Vendée Globe, with an innovative device for capturing images and sounds to imagine an atypical film. The artist, who composed the soundtrack, will accompany the screening with a live remix.

european trip

This year, the films screened come from directors of around fifty nationalities. The “Focus”, which each edition places the emphasis on the production of a territory, will be devoted this year to the Baltic States (Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania) and Finland.

At the same time, the general delegate Christine Camsupers and the president Anne Georget wanted to put a spotlight on Ukraine. The country will be Fipadoc’s guest of honor with a selection of films presented out of competition under the “Visions of Ukraine” label. This decision aims to contribute to the support of Ukrainian professionals who are suffering from the war. On the one hand, by hosting their projects in the Fipadoc co-production forum and, on the other hand, by offering viewers, through the films screened, keys to understanding the conflict both from a historical and current.

The “Impact” category, this selection of documentaries “to change the world” in the field of the environment, human rights or social justice will remain one of the highlights of the festival, with ten films from eight countries .

Finally, the “musical documentary” category is expanding compared to last year. In 2022, there were ten films vying for the grand prize. Given the quality of the proposals received, the organization decided to select 13 this time, from 9 countries.
