Emirates Health Services launches transformative project that deploys metaverse technology in healthcare delivery

DUBAI, 30th December, 2022 (WAM) — Emirates Health Services (EHS) has announced the launch of a Metaverse-based virtual telemedicine solution using 3D virtual reality technology.

This launch is part of transformative projects that leverage advanced technologies and promote smart services such as remote health solutions and telemedicine.

Through this project, EHS aims to provide virtual medical consultation services supported by advanced technologies. This technology, the first of its kind, allows members of society to access online services through smart devices, allowing the service to be extended to reach wider segments of individuals and improving the customer experience. Through this new virtual channel, patients can effortlessly access psychiatric consultation services, family health promotion clinics and customer satisfaction centers.

EHS Chief Executive Dr. Youssif Mohammed Al-Serkal said it is the first global healthcare provider to apply Metaverse technology to deliver advanced services and promote the Sustainable Development Goals by health by adopting best practices that leverage AI, IoT and Blockchain technologies.

“This aims to strengthen governance, clinical review services and research, promote ethical standards and global best practices, and enhance the competitiveness of the sector to world-class levels. The above aligns with our strategy to secure the future of our services in the face of emerging challenges.”

He added: “Our transformation projects aim to drive innovation, invest in national healthcare capabilities and continue to keep pace with rapid developments and changes in the sector globally using the latest global medical devices and AI-based treatments and service automation.”

The new initiative aims to promote telemedicine practices in virtual clinics and to provide consultation services and medicines through robotic pharmacies. It also aims to increase customer satisfaction and build patient confidence by providing excellent outpatient services and updating service channels.

The project will provide psychiatric counseling services for different age groups, in addition to access to the Client Happiness Center and family-oriented health promotion services. The project is part of EHS’s goal to be at the forefront of the application of Metaverse technology and equipment-less services.

Metaverse offers an interactive 3D space that allows customers to interact with healthcare professionals over a secure link using their devices equipped with a camera, microphone and speakers. Thus, patients do not need to purchase equipment such as headphones or controllers. Doctors can assess conditions, discuss treatment plans, and provide treatment and other clinical services.
