As WWDC approaches, a trademark filing for RealityOS has been spotted, which may well be a sign of the product being announced during the Apple brand event.
Spotted for the first time in 2017 by Bloomberg, the name of RealityOS reappeared a few days before the launch of one of Apple’s biggest events, the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) which will begin on Monday June 6, 2022.
Although more software and developer oriented, an event of this size is sometimes used to unveil a new product and it could be the turn of the Cupertino company’s mixed reality headset to appear.
A registered trademark, the final step before the announcement?
We were telling you about it earlier in the month, the new virtual/augmented reality headset was reportedly presented to the board, indicating that the product is at an advanced stage of its design and that it could finally be ready.
The RealityOS trademark filing was spotted by Parker Ortolan, which adds a bit more credence to rumors announcing the headset’s presentation at the event. It is, however, still too early to know if the project is ready to be released this year or if its release will be postponed until next year.
Apple did not register the trademark in its own name
This is common practice for large companies, but Apple has not trademarked RealityOS in its own name. Instead, it’s a company named Realityo Systems LLC, which doesn’t appear to have any public presence or previous activity, that did it.
As Ortolani mentions in his tweet, it might just be a coincidence, but Realityo Systems is registered at the same address as another company named Yosemite Research LLC which was used for update name filing software like macOS Yosemite, which makes it really unlikely.
It cannot be a coincidence that the “realityOS” trademark owned by a company that seemingly doesn’t exist and is specifically for “wearable computer hardware” is being filed around the world on June 8, 2022 + https://t.co/AH97r95EMnpic.twitter.com/uvsiZCj2rR

The idea behind the use of a single company is to preserve as much as possible the secrets of a product that has not yet been revealed by the company. Note that the deadline for international filing is June 8, which only reinforced the rumor of the helmet’s release at WWDC.
For Mark Gurman, of Bloomberg, this is just a coincidence of the calendar, since legally, the deadline is set at 6 months after the filing of a trademark. Still according to him, if it is likely to have more information on the device during the event, “the trademark application is not proof”.
So there are only a few days left to wait a few days to be fixed. For this, Apple gives an appointment for its keynote on Monday, June 6 from 7 p.m. An event to follow live on Les Numériques.
