Mobile telephony: what changes in 2023 for mobile plan customers?

2022 is already ending, and with the arrival of a new year, new laws are emerging. These were voted on earlier in the year, even in previous years, and will come into force in January 2023. Among the most anticipated changes in mobile telephony is the end of unregulated cold calling, among others. Several measures have been taken, with the aim of putting an end to the jungle that this sector of activity had become. A series of laws in line with EU GDPR laws.

A main change in the world of mobile telephony in 2023: the regulation of canvassing

Let’s go into detail, with provisions available on the site of the Ministry of the Economy, find out what will change in 2023 in mobile telephony. First, theARCEP has just banned commercial canvassing to numbers starting in 06 and 07. That is, almost all mobile phone numbers. This includes phone calls as well as text messages.

In France, several laws concerning the world of mobile telephony will change in January 2023.

In addition, a well-known sector will also experience new regulation. Thus, it will now be prohibited to canvass by targeting people with a personal training account, more commonly known as CPF. This has led to many scams, and this law has put a framework back in a sector where consumers were left to their own devices.

Please note that this does not apply to messages between a person and an organization within the framework of ongoing training. Beware of the fine for offenders: this amounts to €75,000 for individuals, and up to 375,000 for businesses.

Finally, a final regulation concerns holders of a mobile or fixed telephone line. From March 1, 2023, authorized canvassing will only be possible during certain time slots. In detail: Monday to Friday, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. then from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. This, in order to fight against abuse and to protect the peace of mind of consumers. Last provision, it is now forbidden to contact the same consumer more than 4 times over a period of 30 days.

What other provisions will come into force in 2023?

As a reminder, other provisions are about to enter into force in early 2023. Regarding mobile telephony, the drafting of MySmallPackage selected two important pieces of information. The first concerns the reduction in termination fees in the case of a mobile plan that led to the purchase of a telephone. Subscribers who purchased the latest iPhone or Samsung this way can now cancel for less during the second year of subscription. The rate to be paid is now 20% of the subscription instead of 25% previously.

Finally, as of June 1, 2023, a final provision concerning mobile telephony, as well as other sectors such as gas contracts, electricity will also come into force. The latter allows subscribers to terminate their contract more easily, through easy access to their customer area.

Indeed, it is very easy to subscribe to a contract in a few clicks from the websites of the various operators, but the termination is often done by means of a tedious procedure involving in particular a registered letter. With this law, termination can be done by pressing a button, easily accessible to everyone.
