At 50, after dragging his canteen around the world, Captain Nicolas Rivoal regains command of 114 soldiers.
He began his career in the engineering department as a bomb disposal engineer and armored vehicle pilot. Nicolas Rivoal enlisted in 1997 in the armored group of the mobile gendarmerie at the 13/1 squadron of Versailles Satory.
He continued his career with multiple commitments, notably overseas: in the West Indies during the violence of 1999, then in 2002 in New Caledonia in the district of Saint-Louis.
Evolving in his career as a non-commissioned officer, he fulfills different functions: group leader, department head.
International commitment

Holder of the weapons diploma in 2007, he engages in international missions. In particular, in Kosovo where he evolved in the Serbian enclaves. He has a special memory of it.
He tells :
I was responsible for contacting the Serbs in order to bring back information to my hierarchy on what they were going through. I was doing research work, while maintaining order. This experience was truly enriching.
He was then assigned from 2009 to 2013 in Martinique and qualified in the field of intervention. Then, when he returned to France, he was transferred to Drancy. For seven years, he went on a mission: in Guyana, French Polynesia, Central African Republic and Venezuela.

Wishing to be closer to his home in the Arcachon basin, he was assigned to the La Réole squadron on 28/2. Last August, Nicolas Rivoal was named captain and succeeded Captain Salmon.
It is with great seriousness that the new captain of the 28/2 squadron takes over the reins. Lieutenant-Colonel Michaël Sorre, commander of the mobile gendarmerie in Mont-de-Marsan entrusts this squadron by underlining the determination and the requirement of the new captain.
He indicates :
Captain Rivoal is committed to all of his functions, with solid experience and a particular taste for restoring order.
For the lieutenant-colonel, Nicolas Rivoal has a rich past, and he will try to have an enriching future for his unit, with involvement and innovation.
Innovation begins with the creation of a Facebook page.
Nicolas Rivoal adds:
It’s the next logical step for me. I had already had experience as an assistant in a unit. It’s a new part of my career that is beginning.
