Fibre: Orange is ahead of SFR, Free and Bouygues Telecom in the number of eligible premises in France – alloforfait.fr

The end of the year is approaching, an opportunity to take stock of fiber deployments in France. At the end of September 2022, Orange was ahead of its competitors SFR, Free and Bouygues Telecom in the number of premises eligible for fiber optic offers.

Operators continue to deploy fiber throughout France, both in major cities and in less dense areas. As of September 30, 2022, there were 33.1 million premises eligible for very high speedincluding 17.1 million subscribers to a fiber offer from an ISP, but which operator has the best coverage to date?

At the end of September 2022, Orange offered its fiber to the greatest number of inhabitants with 32.3 million premises eligible for its offers. It is ahead of SFR and Free, which share second place, followed by Bouygues Telecom, which closes the ranking.

Orange leader in fiber coverage in France

The incumbent operator is in first place in France in terms of fiber coverage, ahead of its three main competitors SFR, Free and Bouygues Telecom. He offers his FTTH fiber optic Livebox offers (fiber to the home) to approximately 32.3 million premises across France, or 17.6% more over one year.

It must be said that Orange is heavily invested in the deployment of fiber by being committed in very large cities, in several hundred municipalities following the AMII (Call for expression of investment intention) as well as in departmental public networks and in AMEL procedures (Call for expression of local commitments) launched in certain territories.

As regards the operator’s customer base, it amounted to 6.5 million fiber subscribers as of September 30, 2022.

SFR and Free tied, but the troublemaker ahead in terms of subscriptions

Behind Orange, we find SFR and Free which are tied with 29.8 million premises eligible for their fiber optic and very high speed offers (for SFR and RED by SFR).

In terms of fiber customer base, Free is ahead of the operator in the red square with its 4.5 million subscribers, while SFR has 4.3 million subscribers to its very high speed offers, including FTTH, THD subscribers ( FTTB, coaxial terminated fiber) and 4G Box.

If SFR also deploys its fiber network in municipalities concerned by the AMII, it is also present in public networks (RIP) and AMEL. As for the troublemaker of telecoms, it relies on very large cities and RIPs to extend its fiber coverage.

Bouygues Telecom brings up the rear with 28 million connectable premises

In last place, we find Bouygues Telecom with 28 million premises eligible for its offers as of September 30, 2022. On this date, it had 2.8 million customers at its Bbox offers in FTTHmuch less than its competitors.

But Martin Bouygues’ operator has largely caught up this year, in particular by concentrating its efforts in RIPs to bring its fiber offers to the greatest number of homes in France.

In 2023, deployments should be completed in many territories and the number of premises eligible for offers from the four main operators should increase.
