After having it unveiled last augustTamron today officially launches its mobile application Tamron Lens Utility on Android. Available on the Google Play Store, it allows you to customize the settings of your Tamron lens on the fly, without going through a computer.
Customize your lens without going through the computer
In 2021, Tamron launched its Lens Utility software for Macs and PCs. Unveiled at the same time as the Tamron 28-75mm f/2.8 Di III VXD G2this application made it possible to personalize its objective thanks to the presence of the USB-C port at base of keg.
By connecting it to the computer, it became thus possible to change the behavior of some settings such as the direction of rotation of the focus ring, which was also possible to transform into an aperture ring, apply focus presets, choose the option under the customizable button, etc. It is also possible to choose between linear or non-linear manual focus.
With the mobile application, Tamron expands the possibilities of shooting both photos and videos, without going through a computer. By connecting your Android smartphone to USB-C, it becomes possible to customize the behavior of your lens with the following functions:
Focus/aperture switch : transforms the MAP ring into an aperture ring;
AF/MF switch : quickly activates or deactivates the autofocus (which is redundant here with the physical switch present on the barrel);
Focus adjustment (remote control or via the customizable button): moves the focus to a pre-recorded focal point (practical for astrophotography, for example);
FocusAB (remote control or via the customizable button): allows you to operate a smooth transition between two shots (very useful for videographers). The transition speed is adjustable in the app;
Assignment of an enclosure function (burst setting, exposure metering or other) to the customization button
Changing the direction of rotation of the focus ring
Change the manual focus method: linear or radial
Unfortunately, the app will not update the lens firmware like the desktop version does. No iOS version is currently planned.
