Immervision partners with ModalAI to offer a complete drone vision solution

Immervision and ModalAI announce that they have signed a partnership to create a drone vision solution integrating Immervision’s Imvisio-ML platform and ModalAI’s VOXL 2

MONTREAL, CANADA–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Immersionthe world’s leading developer of advanced vision systems combining optics, image processing and sensor fusion, today announced that it has entered into a partnership with ModalAI, Inc., a drone and autonomous robot technology manufacturer that is a member of the Blue UAS program. This collaboration should result in an advanced “ready to fly” vision system for drone manufacturers.

This complete solution incorporates Immervision’s Imvisio-ML technology and VOXL 2 platform to provide an end-to-end image pipeline from optics to the hardware platform running the standalone navigation software. With its 190-degree field of view and low-light capability, the solution increases perception and improves performance for machine vision applications on its Qualcomm QRB5165 processor. The VOXL 2 computing platform, coupled with the Imvisio-ML camera module, improves critical navigation beyond line-of-sight to enable safer and more reliable flights.

“ModalAI is very pleased to strengthen its partnership with Immervision. The VOXL 2 drone autopilot offers superior computational capability for the UAS industry. Coupled with Immervision’s camera module, VOXL 2 can enable small drones to access autonomous perception and navigation in low-light environments,” said Chad Sweet, CEO and co-founder of ModalAI, Inc.

“Given the increasing demand for autonomous navigation for drones, it had become necessary to extend the operating range of drones from daylight to difficult low-light conditions” explains Jean-Sébastien Landry, Director product management at Immervision. “Working with the VOXL 2 platform, this comprehensive solution delivers optimal performance for non-GPS navigation, localization, mapping and obstacle avoidance in all lighting and environmental conditions.”

Both companies are members of the Defense Innovation Unit (DIU) Blue UAS program which aims to accelerate commercial technology with the goal of delivering advanced and reliable capabilities to drone users.

Immervision will showcase the benefits of this complete drone vision solution at CES 2023
