Signal users can write messages in the Note to Self chat and refer to them in the future. Messages can be reminders or to-do items.

Signal users can use the Personal Note feature to keep important chats, notes, or reminders in one place. In its latest November 2022 update, Signal added support for stories so users can post updates in videos or photos that disappear within 24 hours. The instant messaging service may not be as popular as some competitors, but it’s a good option that’s still free and doesn’t bombard users with ads.

To write a personal note on Android devices, users must first tap the compose icon (represented by a pencil in a blue circle) to bring up their Signal contact list. Find and select the entry named “Note to Self”. This will open a chat where users can tap “Signal message” to write a message and tap the plus icon to add a file to the chat. Once done, tap the send icon (white arrow and padlock surrounded by a blue circle), and it will remain in the chat for future reference.

Note to Self is available on Signal for mobile and desktop

Users can also write a message for themselves in Signal for iOS. To do this, they need to tap the compose icon (represented by a pencil) in the app and select the contact entry named “Note to Self”. This would redirect them to a chat page with their own account. Here, users can tap the “New message” button to write a message, which can include their shopping list, tasks for the day, things to remember, or a reminder of something they want to do, and tap on the blue arrow to send it. Additionally, users can tap the plus icon to upload a document, such as a PDF or Word file, to the chat.

The ability to write a note to yourself is also available on Signal for desktop. Users should select “Search” and enter “Personal Note”, which should appear as a contact entry. After that, users need to choose the contact entry in the right panel to open the chat page, like other chats, and type their message in the “Send message” text field. It is also possible to attach a document or file by clicking the plus icon to the right of the chat bar. Press Enter to send the message to you on the Signal desktop app.

With the Note to Self feature, Signal users can send text and voice messages and upload images, video clips and documents. This feature is a great way to remember things, especially for those who use the app throughout the day. Signal also notes that all messages in the Note to Self section are end-to-end encrypted, meaning only the user sending it can read them. Finally, users can also send disappearing messages using the Note to Self feature on Signal.
