Google is preparing to open a “preview program” for the Home app on Android, which would provide early access to new features in your smart home – here’s how to sign up.
About APK Information: In this “APK Insight” article, we decompiled the latest version of an app that Google uploaded to the Play Store. When we decompile these files (called APKs, in the case of Android apps), we can see several lines of code inside that suggest possible future features. Please note that Google may or may not offer these features, and our interpretation of what they are may be flawed. However, we will try to allow those closer to completion to show you what they will look like if shipped. With that in mind, read on.
For years, Google has offered a public preview program for its Chromecasts, Google Home speakers, and Nest Hub displays. For the past few years, this preview program has been the gateway to testing Google’s Fuchsia operating system, but it’s usually meant for testing new features a few weeks before they’re released.
It looks like Google is planning to expand its preview program to encompass the Google Home app itself. As shown below, the sign-up page tells you that the preview program will unlock the “first features” of Google Home, but of course warns you that they’re probably still buggy.
Ask to test new Home app features before they become widely available
Share comments if you have any ideas or run into any issues. Your feedback could help improve the app.
The first functions may have problems that affect the operation of the application. Google is monitoring these issues to fix them quickly.
Unsubscribe at any time. You can always upgrade to the standard version of the Home app.
From the way it’s worded, it looks like Google will start allowing some people to download beta versions of the Google Home app from the Play Store. It’s worth noting that Google uses a closed beta system for this app, as some other apps (Android Auto, Google Messages, Play Services and many more) offer open beta testing to anyone brave enough to get involved. to register.
The new preview program comes just weeks after it was discovered that Google was launching a “Google Nest Trusted Tester program” in Centercode, aimed at testing a next generation design for the Google Home app. These two programs may be the same thing, but the in-app sign-up flow doesn’t ask for any personal data unlike Centercode.
From what we can tell, it’s likely that Google only intends to make signups for this Preview program available to a limited number of people. For the lucky few, it should appear somewhere in the top bar of the Android Google Home app.
However, if you want to take a chance on signing up, it’s actually surprisingly easy to manually access the Google Home app preview program sign-up page. Simply tap the link below from your Android device and you will be taken directly to the registration page. From there, tap “Request Invitation” to show your interest in becoming a tester. From there, it’s just a matter of whether or not Google accepts you into the program.
