How do you decide how much storage you need on your next iPhone?

When buying a new smartphone, do you struggle to decide how much storage you need? Or you simply decide to buy the largest storage capacity available for the model you are buying. This is usually a huge waste of money unless you absolutely need the 512GB to 1TB capacity available on the flagships Nowadays.

Last October, we told you about a rumor that Apple would offer iPhone 14s in 2022 with up to 2TB of NAND flash storage capacity. It is very likely that this storage capacity will only be available on the iPhone 14 Pro range. Currently, the largest storage capacity available on an iPhone is 1TB on the iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max, with a maximum capacity of 512GB for non-Pro models.

For help, Apple’s support department posted a video on Friday titled “How to Choose Your iPhone’s Storage Capacity”. Apple explains:If you’re buying a new iPhone, you can determine which storage capacity is right for you by checking how much storage you’re currently using“. And, that actually makes sense. If you know the current storage capacity of your smartphone, you can probably figure out whether it’s better to have less storage, more storage, or the same amount.

It’s important to note that if you’re a phone enthusiast, you probably already know how much storage you have on your device. On your iPhone, go to Settings > General > iPhone Storage. At the top of the screen, you’ll see how much storage you’ve used and the total amount available.

You’ll also see a breakdown of the file types you store on your iPhone. For example, using the iPhone storage measurement tool’s color coding, you can quickly see if your device is full of apps, photos, videos, emails, and messages. The Apple representative states in the video:If you’re nearing your limit, consider a larger capacity iPhone“.

Consider future uses

If you have a lot of unused space, Apple suggests that your next iPhone should have storage capacity similar to the device you’re using now. Please note that Apple is not saying to buy a phone with smaller storage capacity in this situation. In fact, this is more of sound advice than a financial boost from Apple, because getting caught with too much extra storage isn’t the same as getting take without sufficient storage capacity.

Some answers on YouTube were interesting, including one that said always consider future storage needs rather than current ones. As this person pointed out, with the improvements in each model’s camera, you’ll definitely take better photos and videos that will require extra storage space.

Of course, iPhone users can still use iCloud for storage.
