Google is also thinking about “small” smartphones with the future Android 13 GB update

News hardware Google is also thinking about “small” smartphones with the future Android 13 GB update

Like every year, mobile operating systems are getting a little makeover. Apple recently launched iOS 16 and Google is preparing to launch the new Android 13 on all smartphones. But that’s not all, since Google has also planned a new OS for entry-level smartphones.

Android Go: the entry-level OS made by Google

It has been just over a year since the Go version of Android 12 was presented (December 21, 2021) and yet, Google already has the successor to this operating system. Yep, we’re not even a year later and the Mountain View company has just unveiled Android 13 (Go Edition). And you will see, this version will bring several important new features compared to what we were able to have last year. With Android Go, Google is also thinking of people equipped with a less high-end smartphone than the Pixel, iPhone or Galaxy from Samsung.

Before getting to the heart of the matter, Google first made the choice to make improvements to the Android Go update system. On devices with little internal memory, it is quite problematic to download update packages that take up a lot of space, so Android 13 updates will be fastermore direct and will try not to compromise internal storage.

Android 13 Go: real news, finally!

Okay, now let’s talk about the real news, the most visible and interesting news! The first, which we’ve been waiting for a long time, is the arrival of Discover on the home screen. So when we swipe right, we will be able to access the Discover panel, as with other Android smartphones that do not use this Go version. It remains to be seen how this will all be optimized on these devices, since the Discover dashboard still consumes a lot of resources.

Along with this novelty, Android 13 GB will also become a more customizable OS, with an interface closer to that which can be had on the standard version of Android 13. Finally, Material You, will give the possibility to change the theme of the device when we change the wallpaper – a system similar to what can be found on a computer with Windows. Furthermore, the notification bar and the lock screen will also be modeled on the current interface of Android 13.

As per usual, Android 13 GB will be gradually rolled out to different devices, also bringing with it new patches and security improvements. It will also be able to support updates from the Google Play system – which was not the case on the current versions. However, we will have to wait a few more months, because the first devices equipped with Android 13 Go should start to leave the factories of the various manufacturers from 2023.
