Opting for the digital and computer sciences specialty means choosing the algorithmic system, programming languages ​​and database management. With wide outlets, such as IT, health, literature or even sustainable development.

The NSI specialty (digital and computer sciences) is part of the continuity of computer science lessons provided in primary school, middle school (in mathematics and technology) and second (in common teaching of digital sciences).

This specialty allows you to understand the basics of programming, used for example to develop software, websites, applications for smartphones, etc.

The NSI specialty program

On the NSI specialty program: the history of computing, table data processing, operating systems, algorithms… In parallel with these notions, you will often be confronted with logical challenges through the programming languages ​​most used in computer science. It will be mainly Python, but you will also touch on HTML, CSS, JavaScript and SQL. The program in the final year is an extension of the learning initiated in first year.

To follow this specialty serenely, it is advisable to also choose the mathematical specialty in première, and to continue in terminale with the specialty or the complementary mathematics option.

The NSI specialty is taught four hours a week in première, and six hours in terminale.

NSI specialty exams

If you decide to abandon the specialty at the end of your first year, you will be assessed in this subject on the basis of continuous assessment. The NSI specialty will therefore count coefficient 8 the final mark of the baccalaureate.

On the other hand, if you decide to keep it in terminale, you will be evaluated in the final exams of the baccalaureate: written exercises in 3h30 and a practical exercise of one hour, with coefficient 16. For the written part of the test which is evaluated on 12 points, you will have three exercises to choose from to solve. As for the practical part, evaluated on 8 points, you will be required to solve two computer programming exercises.
