Since the start of the school year in October 2022, a first class of students has joined the data engineer master’s degree in computer science offered on a work-study basis at CGI Clermont-Ferrand, Grenoble and Lyon. Developed with the assistance of the publisher Talend and the Ipi school, this program leads to a level 7 diploma registered in the National Directory of Professional Certifications (RNCP).
Meet the growing needs of companies in Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes for analytical skills. It is for this purpose that the IT services provider CGI in collaboration with the Ipi IT school and the publisher Talend announce the creation of a joint program training in the profession of data engineers. Lasting two years, the data engineer master’s degree accessible after a Bac+3 is offered by way of apprenticeship. Since last October, the learners of the first promotion have followed theoretical lessons in a supervised virtual class. IT project management methods, management/communication, law, finance and IT culture are covered. Expertise modules in data engineering aim for their part to master databases, big data concepts, namely to interface data (ETL) and to carry out processing in programming in Java, Python, and R.
In order to put the knowledge into practice, the second part of the course takes place in the form of an immersion on the CGI sites in Lyon, Grenoble and Clermont-Ferrand. On this occasion, the main mission of the student-apprentices will be to define, choose and set up the ad hoc tools to analyze and use the data. To do this, students will learn how to set up, industrialize, optimize and monitor data infrastructures on a daily basis. Throughout the learning phase, they will support CGI’s technical and business teams in their work. The ultimate idea is to bring analytical expertise to projects carried out for CGI’s clients, in all sectors of activity.
National and regional job prospects
At the end of the day, a certified title of director of IT projects registered in the National Directory of Professional Certifications (RNCP) recognized at level 7, that is to say at bac+5. Tuition fees vary according to the arrangements and modes of financing chosen. As part of an apprenticeship or professionalization contract, the cost of training is financed via the company’s OPCO (according to the level of support established). With expertise in data integration software, the French publisher Talend participated in the construction of this educational program. In addition to supporting students during the construction of their projects, the supplier provides them with online educational platforms and resources.
“Data and more generally the digital sector are a real opportunity for employment both in our region and on a national scale, commented Didier Thérond, senior vice-president Auvergne Rhône-Alpes and Switzerland at CGI in a communicated. The manager concluded by adding that through this course, great development and career opportunities would be offered to young people at the end of their apprenticeship.
