USF invites SAP customers to get involved in the investigation conducted by the French Competition Authority

The association of French-speaking SAP users (USF) seems to have been taken aback by the announcement of an investigation by the French Competition Authority concerning SAP following a referral from Cigref, the computer club of large French companies.

Invitation to all to take part in the investigation by the Autorité de la concurrence

However, the association wishes to react even if its reaction raises questions. Indeed, the USF invites all the actors that the Competition Authority will solicit, whether they are SAP customers or not, as well as the SAP publisher itself, to take part in the investigation and to fully invest in it. In short, the USF asks companies to respect the law, that is to say to answer the questions that will be asked of them and to do so with enthusiasm.

Undoubtedly, the association can feel marginalized or even dispossessed when it has been working for a long time with SAP so that the publisher takes into account the expectations of users as best as possible, and so that commercial policies are living up to SAP’s value promise. The USF wants to remind that it addresses all the subjects that annoy with SAP such as those of indirect access, the value of SAP software support or the real need for a migration to S / 4HANA and that it always acts in a constructive spirit, for the good of the entire community.

USF stresses that its intentions on these points are in agreement with those of Cigref, which it considers to be an activist at a more cross-functional level, i.e. with all the software publishers on the market and not just with SAP like she is doing it. It can be noted, however, that at the end of 2021, USF welcomed a better climate with SAPand spoke of ” an era of constructive dialogue between SAP and its users. This should not have been so constructive in view of the investigation now underway.

A unique opportunity to clarify the situation with SAP

Less ironically, we see that the USF wants to consider this investigation by the Competition Authority as a unique and strategic opportunity to set the framework for clarifying the situation. The association considers that this is in the interest of users of SAP products, in order to be able to evolve with secure and clearly controlled IT tools and, on the other hand, it is also the interest of the SAP publisher of achieve this, to further affirm its image as a strategic partner for its customers over the long term.

However, the USF seems to want to reassure itself by declaring that the main mission of the Competition Authority is first and foremost to be an arbiter, which makes it possible to smooth the game between the players by defining a framework for them to guarantee compliance with long-term rules. ” This is an operation that can only be beneficial for the growth of the economic fabric of the entire software business sector” concludes the USF.
