No computer programming, coding, are not only reserved for geeks or thirtysomethings! From now on, children can learn about different computer languages and even learn to develop video games, from an early age. “We have opened courses for children from 6 years old, you just need to know how to read”, explains Laura, co-founder of CODii.fr, a site which offers coding courses via zoom or face-to-face, in all Israel, for 6-18 year olds.
In the classes, six to eight students meet every week to learn computer languages such as Java, Python, C, Unity, Scratch. They discover the world of programming in a fun way and become familiar with concepts that will be part of their daily life in a few years. In other words, they are getting ahead!
We are sure that learning to program from an early age allows children to awaken their minds, their creativity and their curiosity.
“Today, in Israel, high-tech is omnipresent. We want to give French-speaking children the chance to continue to integrate well thanks to our program. We teach them the fundamentals of artificial intelligence, how to give computer the instructions that will allow him to create the desired program… We teach the creation of websites, applications and video games. This seems complex and reserved for developers or engineers but on the contrary, in a world in perpetual evolution, these new technologies are part of everyday life. We are certain that learning to program from an early age allows children to awaken their minds, their creativity and their curiosity. And can even spark vocations”.
But excellence is not the only interest of these courses… ‘My daughter is 8 years old, and she has been diagnosed with a slight intellectual disability,’ says Laetitia, Elya’s mother. the school, which can neither read nor write, discovered an unexpected ease in handling the mouse, and in inventing games. We are working together on the story of a princess who walks in the garden of the castle and who must avoid poisoned apples, she is the one who imagined the game and who is creating it. It’s extremely gratifying.”
The idea was first born in family, we wanted to create smart screen time
Elya’s pleasure in connecting and inventing, alongside her mother, very real video games is indicative of the way in which the lessons are taught. “We are very supervised at the start, then less if we don’t need it”, explains Laetitia. “The training team is fantastic and adapts on a case-by-case basis.”
The idea of these trainings was born during the covid crisis. Laura, a specialist in digital marketing, her brother-in-law, an IT developer engineer, and her entrepreneur husband, decide to bring together all the children in the family to create “intelligent” screen time for them. From there, are born courses and modules that they decide to make accessible to all! “We then launched lessons, in partnership with the Tel Aviv City Hall and the Mehoubarim centers in the cities of Netanya, Ashdod and Jerusalem. In addition to private lessons, we opened activities in these cities for all French-speaking children from 9-year-old whose parents are less than 15 years of Aliyah”.

“We see real enthusiasm every day from families when they discover CODii, whether at the concept level or at the level of the lessons themselves. And we hope to be able to interest as many children as possible in the fascinating world of programming”, resumes Laura A promising start, like the start-up nation.
