Körber’s Operator Eye helps the world’s leading contract logistics provider reduce picking errors by up to 75%.

LONDON, UK, June 22, 2022

Körber has partnered with GXO Logistics, Inc. (NYSE: GXO), the world’s largest pure-play contract logistics provider, to develop the pioneering artificial intelligence-based Operator Eye solution that detects errors and reduces autonomously downtime and human intervention in the order picking process.

In 2021, GXO turned to Körber for a camera monitoring solution for the Körber K. Handle Layer Picker to help employees address shrink wrapping and plastic wrapping errors.

Körber's Operator Eye helps the world's leading contract logistics provider reduce picking errors by up to 75%.

Based on feedback from GXO employees, Körber developed and tested an innovative add-on solution called Operator Eye. This AI-based device uses a camera system to detect errors in real time during picking and creates algorithms to learn operator actions. It then applies those learnings to detect problems, adapt operations, and make decisions about when to stop or continue, much like a self-driving car.

The collaboration with GXO made this project possible “, said Hans-Henrik Jensen, CEO -Körber Supply Chain DK. ” Continuous improvement and innovation are at the heart of their strategy, which has enabled rapid development and created value for both parties. “.

One of the main benefits of Operator Eye is that it improves the efficiency of machine operation without requiring the operator to change his behavior. When the software has learned enough from the operator, it automatically resets the machine, improving uptime and performance. Although Operator Eye was developed for the Layer Picker, it can also be integrated into any machine that operators need to restart after a visual check, for example, pallet trucks, where loose plastic film often causes stoppages.

We were delighted to work with Körber to develop Operator Eye, which is another example of our commitment to using innovative technology to make the warehouse safer, more efficient and more productive for our people. “, said Gavin Williams, Managing Director – UK and Ireland, GXO. ” Along with our other technologies, it makes our people’s jobs more fulfilling by allowing them to focus on finding more value in their roles through activities such as identifying compatibility issues and troubleshooting equipment “.

GXO also uses Operator Eye’s data collection feature to review and improve operations and customer services, for example, by identifying problematic packaging patterns and helping suppliers modify them for faster handling.
