During the AI Summit in Lyon, Pascal Montagnon to business leaders “you will not be able to do without Artificial Intelligence”

The third edition of the Artificial Intelligence Summit organized by the Omnes Education group was held on June 14 in Lyon. The artificial intelligence market is booming. This market, which in 2015 represented 200 million dollars, should reach 90 billion dollars in 2025.

Born of a partnership between the OMNES Education group, and the CEGID and ESKER groups, the Digital Innovation, Data Science & Artificial Intelligence Chair was created within the INSEEC business school in order to carry out a reflection aimed at shedding light on the Digital Strategy and the challenges of Artificial Intelligence.

OMNES Education is a private higher education and multidisciplinary research group in management, engineering sciences, communication and political science.

Through this show, the 12 “speakers” offer a 360° vision of AI and its impact on the evolution of companies. During this summit, different themes were discussed, such as Artificial Intelligence, cybersecurity and even the metaverse.

Pascal Montagnon (director of the data science and artificial intelligence research chair of the Omnes Education group), creator of this event, explains that this Artificial Intelligence Summit has become a major element within their school.

This is an opportunity to bring together the economic world, the scientific world and the academic world

What is Artificial Intelligence?

Artificial intelligence is an algorithmic suite that allows you to make predictions. The more DATA we have, the more reliable the predictions resulting from these analyzes will be.

Why did you choose Lyon for this AI summit?

It is OMNES Éducation Lyon which organizes this event, the digital innovation research chair that I direct is based in Lyon, so it is only natural that we organized this event here.

It’s also much easier to hold events in Lyon than in Paris because the ecosystem is much smaller, which means that we know more people.

Is the city of Lyon a major player in AI?

We are well placed, Paris too for that matter. There are skills in Lyon that are relatively well federated and an ecosystem that is very favorable to the development of all things artificial intelligence.

I also want, thanks to this event, to bring in experts that we are not used to seeing in Lyon. This event allows us to broaden our level of reflection, so it is very interesting for us to welcome people like Laurence DeVillers (CNRS research director), Albert Meige, Nicolas Arpagian (former cybersecurity director of the orange group).

What strong message do you want to convey to you thanks to this summit?

The strong message for business leaders is that you cannot do without Artificial Intelligence. Whether you like it or not, at some point you will come to it. So it is better to anticipate in order to be able to carry out this transformation now and gradually than too late and therefore suddenly.

In a second step, it is necessary to carry out a very good initial diagnosis. Today we see that some business leaders are asking for a very high level of AI when they don’t really need it. It is better to proceed step by step.

There is a rumor about an AI university opening in Lyon?

Yes I heard about this project, we don’t really know where it really is. There are indeed reflections in progress on the creation of this university however we are still far from the realization of this project.

Would you like to be part of the creation of such a project?

We are a private school, so if we are asked, we will collaborate with pleasure. However, we are not waiting for the creation of this school because within OMNES Education we also have an engineering school for which I created a “data engineering and artificial intelligence” program that we developed in Paris last year. and which will be offered from the start of the 2022 school year in Lyon.

The primary objective of this Summit?

Science must come out of the laboratories! we must popularize our discourse so that everyone can understand even if they do not have all the necessary skills to understand the technical problems. It is simply a question of making everyone understand the interests of the stakes of artificial intelligence.

What did you think of the attendance of this edition?

We see everywhere that it is very difficult post-covid to bring the public back to face-to-face. Which I understand because we have not yet resumed a completely normal rhythm of life. However, I strongly believe in the virtue of face-to-face events. Our event remains voluntarily on a human scale, this allows us to really exchange with the speaker. The number of registrations was therefore capped at 400, this figure was quickly reached, however there are still a lot of people who did not come so we are shooting at around 300 people, given the quality of the set I expected to “play to a sold-out crowd” but we are still very happy. We also wanted to open this event to as many people as possible, making registration for this summit free this year.

Are you satisfied with this third edition of the AI Summit?

I am really delighted with the level and quality of the speakers and the exchanges with the public. Questions are coming from everywhere, especially during Albert Meige’s intervention on the metaverse, which has been bombarded with questions. The public indeed wanted to understand what the interests of the business world were. They were able to get their answers.

Are you planning a next event next year?

Yes and of course always in Lyon. We already have our headliners for next year. I can’t tell you a name for the moment simply we will have a set made up of business leaders from very large groups…
